Western Stakes started with a simple complaint: most "leather" wallets sold today are bonded scrap or plastic with a leather smell sprayed on. They peel in a year. We wanted the kind of wallet a man hands down — full-grain hide, tooled by hand, stitched with waxed thread and finished with real cast hardware.
Every design we make is built in small batches by leather workers who tool, stitch and burnish by hand. That is why no two pieces are identical: the scroll is a little deeper on one, the cowhide patch is a different pattern on another. It is also why they last.
Today the collection runs to 58 designs across wallets, long wallets and phone holsters — faith pieces like the praying cowboy and San Judas, rodeo long wallets, Americana, hair-on cowhide, embroidered and exotic leathers. What full-grain means
Full-grain is the top layer of the hide with the natural grain left intact — the strongest part of the leather. It is not sanded, split or coated. It darkens with sun and hands, softens with use, and takes the shape of what you carry. A Western Stakes wallet at five years looks better than the day it arrived.
